Project Case Study: Haramain High-Speed Railway, Saudi Arabia

Forging the Future of Transport with Monumental Architectural Metalwork
The Haramain High-Speed Railway is a groundbreaking infrastructure project connecting the holy cities of Mecca and Medina. The stations, designed by Foster + Partners, are some of the largest and most architecturally significant transportation hubs in the world. Their design draws inspiration from traditional Islamic architecture, reinterpreting arches and vaulted spaces into a modern, cathedral-like scale.
Our company played a crucial role in realizing this vision by fabricating and supplying key architectural metal components that define the passenger experience. The project demanded immense precision to manufacture components for these vast, repeating structural forms.
Key Metalwork Solutions Provided:
Architectural Column Cladding: The stations are defined by their massive, tree-like “Y-columns.” We manufactured the custom architectural metal cladding that wraps these complex structural steel forms, providing a smooth, durable, and aesthetically pristine dark-bronze finish that flows from the floor to the vaulted ceiling.
Tessellated Metal Ceiling Systems: We produced the intricate metal ceiling panels featured throughout the grand concourses. These diamond-shaped, perforated, or louvered panels are essential to the station’s acoustics, lighting integration, and its stunning modern aesthetic.
Stainless Steel Escalator & Balustrade Cladding: For high-traffic durability, we supplied extensive brushed stainless steel cladding for the numerous escalators and moving walkways. This also included metal components for the glass balustrade systems found on the station’s multiple mezzanines and bridges.
Architectural Facades & Mullions: Our scope contributed to the massive exterior glass walls, which feature a distinct diagonal grid pattern. We supplied components for this metal curtain wall system, including decorative mullion covers and wall panel systems that clad the interior structure.
Bespoke Fixtures: We also manufactured other key station elements, such as the large, circular metal-framed lighting fixtures suspended over the platforms and concourses, as well as bases for public seating and signage systems.
This project demonstrates our capacity to execute metal fabrication on a monumental scale, meeting the exacting standards of a world-class, high-speed rail network.
